My story and reasons for going to Kibera this fall may best be explained in a passage of Matthew 25 verse 35:

“…For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’  Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’  The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.

The last year of my life has taken me through some particularly dark and trying times, but through it all I have consistently been aware of the presence, love, and comfort of God. My hope this fall is twofold: One, to be used by God to show His love to the people of Kibera, Two to be changed from the inside out by my experience so that I can have a deeper love for the Lord and ‘the least of these’.

I also hope to see elephants.

If you would like to donate to my trip, please click on the link below. I would also be privileged and humbled if you would join me in praying for the Lord’s will in the hearts of the people of Kibera, for safety and favor in the unknown places, and for courage, energy and joy amidst difficult surroundings.

I think what you guys are doing/experiencing is amazing. Reading yours & Fulmer’s blogs are so interesting & I respect both of you for taking the time to help out those in such desparate need. I definitely will donate what I can & I am going to forward the link to your blog onto some friends…it’s definitely eye opening to realize the little stuff I think is bad w/ my life – just does not compare to what you are seeing. Even reading about the starving dogs (knowing my love of animals) makes me sick to my stomach. I hope to one day travel myself to help those in need… Be safe & I look forward to reading more about your experiences! God Bless you guys :) Love, Carrie
